# Bandit Intimidator 990XP Used Price & Common Problems | Chipper Risk

> Bandit Intimidator 990XP: used $29,900 to $32,900. Documented problems: drive clutch (PTO) and chipper knives / anvil. OEM part prices and what to inspect before you buy.

**Verdict:** inspect

Thin comp set: two 2014 units observed at $29,900 and $32,900 (plus several contact-for-price listings confirming an active market). Best-sourced risk is the drive clutch. Bandit's own guide warns a burnt-up clutch is not covered under warranty. Held as research pending a third priced comp.

**Observed used price:** $29,900–$32,900

**Documented failure risks:**
- Drive clutch (PTO): Bandit OEM guide: "If not adjusted correctly, the clutch will slip under a load, causing feed problems. A BURNT-UP CLUTCH IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY!" Bandit-family: an owner reported a 19XPC "only 1.5 years old and already going on its third clutch." Verify clutch engagement under load.
- Chipper knives / anvil: Bandit guide: dull knives increase the power required to chip and increase machine vibration; torque hardware to spec (70–80 ft-lb for 1/2", 180 ft-lb for 5/8") and replace hardware every 4–5 knife rotations.
- Hydraulic feed / slide box: Bandit guide: the slide box must move freely or the feed system will not operate correctly; check hydraulic valve cartridges for debris. This unit has AutoFeed + a hydraulic crush cylinder, test both under load.
- Lift-cylinder failure (~250 hrs) + cold feed-wheel sticking: A 990XP owner had the feed lift cylinder fail early: "at 250hrs the samething started happening. Took it to the dealer and they replaced the lift cylinder and got a $700 bill... the feed wheels get stuck when feeding branches in especially when it's cold." Budget ~$700 for the cylinder and expect cold-weather feed sticking.
